I got inspired to take a look back at my year in pictures. 2012 was a crazy year.
January: Jonathan and I traveled to Florida for a friend’s wedding in West Palm Beach. While in-state, we also celebrated his birthday, met up with his parents at Harry Potter World, took a boat tour of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, visited the Kennedy Space Center, and took a bike tour of Shark Valley in Everglades National Park. We were .thisclose. to alligators.
February: I fulfilled one of my 2012 resolutions and ran my first-ever 5K: the Tangled 5K at Disney World. It is customary to run in costume, so my friends and I dressed up as Ursula from the Little Mermaid because Villains Run Faster. Afterward, we met Flynn Rider and he seduced us with his smolder.
March: I moved to Ramallah, Palestine. Jonathan and I stayed in a hotel for about a month before moving into our apartment – this was the view from the balcony. We spent many a morning in front of the space heaters, drinking fresh juice (made with our new juicer!), and reading books.
June: One of the best things about living in the Holy Land is all of the amazing sight seeing that can be done by driving an hour or so in any direction. The Light Festival in the Old City of Jerusalem is an excellent example of this.
July: Our first visitors! Susan and Lisa visited, and the four of us toured around Jerusalem and Bethlehem. We spent a long weekend in Ein Gedi, where we ate watermelon and cheese, soaked in a sulphur pool, floated in the Dead Sea, and watched the sunrise over Jordan.
October: For Eid al Adha, Jonathan and I met up with his parents in gorgeous, wonderful IRELAND. We spent time in Galway and Dublin — including this day trip to Kylemore Abbey. I’d go back tomorrow if I could.
November: My parents visited! We travelled all around Israel and Palestine — we visited Safed, Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee, Haifa, the Dead Sea, Jericho, Akko, Caesarea, Capernaum, and Ramallah. They tried out the beach bum life for one afternoon — though it was a bit colder than usual.
December: On the date of the supposed Mayan apocalypse and/or X-files alien invasion, I visited Megiddo — the Biblical site of Armageddon. We sounded the shofar that Jonathan received from my parents for Christmas to try to herald the beginning of the apocalypse. As you know, we were unsuccessful.
