LLAP around the world

When traveling with me, one must take a moment to be photographed doing the Vulcan salute. It is known. (For real.) (Seriously.)

Here’s a round-up of a few of my favorites.

On the wall around Graceland, during my birthday trip there in 2011 with Jonathan, Alissa, and Kate. (After this picture was taken, I can clearly remember Kate saying, “Was the hand thing really necessary?” Yes. Always.)

Date Night in the Holy Land

Earlier this week, Jon and I celebrated the end of February with one of my favorite things: date night at the movies. He picked me up after work and we set out for Jerusalem.

Depending on traffic, it takes about an hour to get to there. We had exactly one hour to make it there in time for the 7:30 showing of A Good Day to Die Hard.

The parking garage is…weird. It seems like the mall complex has two parking garages that aren’t connected. The one closest to the movie theater is protected by a dude in a guard booth who won’t always raise the arm to let you in. The other one is below the theater, next to a grocery store. You have to take two separate freight elevators to make it into the mall itself. Then you’re dumped in a back room that exits onto a hallway next to a gelato store. There’s a venue of some sort next door that always seems to be hosting pre-teen birthday parties (bar/bat mitzvahs, maybe?) that invariably feature guests wearing fezes and harem pants. Take one more escalator up and you’ve reached the movie theater!

2012: Year in Review

I got inspired to take a look back at my year in pictures. 2012 was a crazy year.

January:  Jonathan and I traveled to Florida for a friend’s wedding in West Palm Beach. While in-state, we also celebrated his birthday, met up with his parents at Harry Potter World, took a boat tour of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, visited the Kennedy Space Center, and took a bike tour of Shark Valley in Everglades National Park. We were .thisclose. to alligators.

What the Creche?

For some reason, I’ve become obsessed with finding and taking pictures of Nativity scenes in the Holy Land. I don’t know why. Maybe because if you’re in the place it all went down, why bother with a replica? Who knows.

Here are my favorites.

1. Nativity in Lights – Bethlehem. Am I alone in thinking that Mary, or that bulbous, floaty figure next to baby Jesus, looks like something from Ghostbusters? Or maybe a turkey?

Jerusalem Light Festival

So, a couple of months ago the Festival of Light happened in the Old City of Jerusalem. We went.

A few coworkers/friends were interested in going, so a car-full of us headed into Jerusalem after work one evening and traffic. was. awful. It was the worst traffic I’d seen in Jerusalem to date.

We parked near the Damascus Gate, where you could play pinball on the walls.
